Tennessee-Vanderbilt game postponed due to COVID-19

Tuesday's men's basketball game between the Vanderbilt Commodores and the No. 10-ranked Tennessee Volunteers won't occur as scheduled.

The Commodores confirmed that they will be unable to take the court due to positive COVID-19 test results, contact tracing and subsequent quarantines. No potential makeup date for the contest had been announced as of early Tuesday afternoon.

As noted by the Associated Press (h/t ESPN), Vanderbilt was originally supposed to play the Missouri Tigers but couldn't because of coronavirus-related issues impacting Missouri. Meanwhile, Tennessee was set to face the South Carolina Gamecocks until COVID-19 affected the Gamecocks.

As of Tuesday, Vanderbilt is still scheduled to play at Tennessee on Saturday night, but that matchup is now in doubt. For example, South Carolina has had back-to-back games scrapped due to COVID-19 issues and hasn't competed since a 78-54 win over the Texas A&M Aggies last Wednesday.

The Tennessee Lady Volunteers recently missed six days of work while dealing with coronavirus problems. Such a timeline wouldn't allow the Commodores to play by Saturday.

Vanderbilt is set to take on the Aggies on Jan. 20. The Volunteers are at the Florida Gators on Jan. 19.
