Watch: Julian Strawther hits shot from logo to send Gonzaga to Elite Eight

Gonzaga is headed to the Elite Eight after junior guard Julian Strawther hit a three from the March Madness logo to send UCLA packing.

The Bulldogs won a thriller, 78-76, and were led by a phenomenal performance from senior forward Drew Timme. But it was the hometown product Strawther who ended the Bruins' season with his unbelievable 3-pointer.

His shot was the final blow in a chaotic final sequence. Gonzaga led 72-62 with two-and-a-half minutes remaining before UCLA went on a 14-3 run to take a one-point lead with 13 seconds left.

Timme scored 36 points on 16-of-24 shooting to go along with 14 rebounds. Strawther made three 3-pointers and had a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds.

The West Region final is in Las Vegas, where Strawther is from. In an odd coincidence, Kansas State won its regional semifinal in New York thanks to a historic performance from local talent Markquis Nowell, who set an NCAA Tournament record for most assists in a game with 19.

The win over the Bruins keeps the Zags alive for a chance to exorcise their tournament demons. Long gone are the days when a deep Bulldogs postseason run was a Cinderella story. Gonzaga has been one of the best college basketball programs this century but has only two championship game appearances, an 86-70 loss to Baylor in 2021 and a 71-65 loss to North Carolina in 2017.

Next up is a game against 4-seed UConn. The Huskies handily defeated Arkansas, 88-65, in the first West Regional semifinal on Thursday and are playing as good as anyone in the country. If Gonzaga makes shots like it did against the Bruins, that won't matter.
