Nebraska basketball fans have long wanted in-state standout Chucky Hepburn on the team. There were plenty of rumors about him entering the transfer portal last offseason.

This offseason, as in Thursday, it happened as Hepburn is leaving the Wisconsin Badgers to enter the transfer portal, which has Nebraska basketball fans going crazy and wondering if he could land in Lincoln.

The 6-foot-2 guard is from Bellevue, Nebraska. He’s former teammates with William Kyle and Frankie Fidler, who have each been targeted by the Huskers and have taken visits to Lincoln recently.

There was some thought that Fidler could join Hepburn with the Badgers. Yet, on Monday, at the last minute, Fidler announced that he was delaying his decision. You wonder if the Hepburn news has anything to do with that.

Can the Huskers take another point guard?

Hepburn is a point guard who has played the last three seasons for Wisconsin. He averaged just over nine points per game for his career as well as three assists. He also made 144 3-pointers during his time in Madison (36 percent).

Nebraska basketball fans know all about his talent. The question is will the Huskers become a player in his recruitment?

Nebraska just landed Rollie Worster out of the transfer portal. Fred Hoiberg has already talked about him and he’s signed. However, Worster could theoretically be an off-ball guard. Hepburn could too. It might not be exactly what coaches had in mind, but if you have the chance to add a guy like Hepburn, can you pass on it?

Creighton is another possible destination. I have to wonder about Michigan State too with their interest in Fidler. But we’ll see if the Fred Hoiberg and the Huskers get in the mix.

Stay tuned.
