Alabama QB Bryce Young a game-time decision vs. Texas A&M: 'It's going to be a pain-tolerance thing'

It's a big game for the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. So far, in fact, it's the second-biggest game on the schedule after Week 5's win at No. 20 Arkansas.

The Crimson Tide play host to Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M this weekend. The Aggies aren't the juggernaut they started the season out as — they were ranked No. 6 to start the year — but they're still a capable team that will give Alabama a challenge. Case in point, the Aggies beat No. 13 Miami and No. 10 Arkansas in back-to-back games before handling Mississippi State on the road this past weekend.

With that in mind, having Heisman Trophy winner Bryce Young back would be huge for the Crimson Tide. Young left Alabama's game against Arkansas this past weekend in the second quarter with a shoulder injury. He was listed as day-to-day earlier this week and now head coach Nick Saban is saying that the quarterback very well could play against the Aggies.

"Bryce has been practicing, and all week, he's been saying that he could play," Saban told ESPN. "But that's going to be a medical decision. We've still got some time, and I want to talk more to Bryce. He's the only one who knows how he feels because it's going to be a pain-tolerance thing. "He's a tough kid and great competitor. We'll see where he is on game day."

Even if Young doesn't make it back for this particular contest, it does sound like the Crimson Tide aren't worried bout any long-term ramifications of his shoulder injury.

"There's nothing wrong with his rotator cuff or anything like that, nothing that's going to keep him out long term," Saban continued. "We hope we get him back this week, but it's still too early to make that call."

Even if Young can't go, Alabama is still in great hands at quarterback. Freshman Jalen Milroe filled in last week for Young and completed 4-of-9 passes for 65 yards and a touchdown while also rushing six times for 91 yards and a score.
