Clemson extends HC Dabo Swinney through 2031 season

Clemson University announced on Thursday morning that it has agreed to terms with head football coach Dabo Swinney on a new contract extension that will run through the end of the 2031 season.

The contract is reportedly worth $11.5 million per season.

It will pay him $10.5 million in 2022 before gradually working its way up to $12 million according to The Athletic's Grace Raynor, and also includes a buyout for Alabama that is 1.5 times higher than any other university

His average salary is now the second highest among college coaches, trailing only Nick Saban at Alabama.

Swinney has been the head coach at Clemson for 15 years and helped the program become one of the nation's super power football programs during that time.

He has compiled a 151-36 record since the start of the 2008 season while the program has appeared in four College Football National Championships, winning two of them.

Clemson has not lost more than three games in any season since 2011, and has lost more than two games just twice during that stretch.

After a down year in 2021 (by Clemson's standards), the Tigers opened the 2022 season ranked fourth in the country and are again expected to be national title contenders.
