College Football Week 6 Teaser

Week 6 of the college football season is here, and we've got a couple of teams from the Midwest featured in our best College Football Teaser for this week. Neither team is having the season they hoped for — Northwestern at 1-4 and Notre Dame at 2-2 — but don't let that stop you from taking both on the teaser.

The Wildcats gave undefeated Penn State a hell of a time last week, and the Irish are coming off a bye after upsetting North Carolina on the road two weeks ago. And yet, there's a strong possibility both these teams win this week, but you don't even need them to win in order to hit on your teaser.

First, let's start with the disappointing Northwestern Wildcats. The Wildcats opened the season with one of the first upsets of the college football season after beating Nebraska, 31-28, back in late August in Ireland. However, Northwestern hasn't won since. They even lost to FCS SIU-Carbondale earlier in the season. Not good. Yeah, we know.

But with original spread against Wisconsin at (+10), you simply can't pass it up. The Wildcats can play some defense, and Wisconsin has really struggled to score in conference play. The Badgers managed just 10 points in last week's loss to Illinois, and rushed for two total yards. Yes, you read that correctly, two total rushing yards.

In fact, things are so bad in Madison that Wisconsin fired head coach Paul Chryst on Sunday after last week's embarrassing loss to Illinois. Chryst shouldn't be all that upset though — the former head coach agreed to an $11 million buyout with Wisconsin earlier this week.

Interim head coach Jim Leonhard might get the Badgers' season turned around, but asking him to do it in his first game is a large task. It took Nebraska interim head coach Mickey Joseph two weeks before he got his first win, and even if Wisconsin wins this week, don't expect it to be by 16 points. Northwestern might be the worst team in the Big Ten, but they're more than capable of staying within 16 points of a struggling Wisconsin team.

As for the second and final leg of our teaser, take Notre Dame at +2.5 against BYU. The Fighting Irish have looked a lot better in their last two games after losing to Ohio State and Marshall to begin the season, and coming off the bye, don't be surprised if the Irish put up 45 points for a second straight week.

Quarterback Drew Pyne looked really good against North Carolina, and offensive coordinator Tommy Rees did a good job of getting tight end Michael Mayer the ball. Mayer is arguably the best tight end in college football, and the potential future first-round pick should have a field day against BYU.

The Cougars might be 4-1, but they haven't looked all that good in their last two games. It took BYU until the fourth quarter to put Utah State away last week, and the week before that, didn't look all that sharp against Wyoming. No knock on Utah State or Wyoming, but even at 2-2, Notre Dame is much better than both.

This game might be close, but I'd be really surprised if the Irish don't come out of Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas without a win. And again, you don't need the Irish to win outright to win the leg, you just need them to lose by less than two. That's more than manageable, which is why Notre Dame (+2.5) is the final leg of our two-leg teaser.
