Florida State University's president says school is going to be 'very aggressive' in remaining competitive

Despite continuous speculation, no more dominoes have toppled in the months since USC and UCLA shocked the college football world by announcing a move from the Pac-12 to the Big Ten. Florida State sounds ready to make a move when the time is right, though.

"It's something I'm spending a lot of time on and we're getting a lot of help," FSU president Richard McCullough told the Tallahassee Chamber of Commerce of the school's conference affiliation. "We're trying to do anything we can to think about how we remain competitive. Florida State is expected to win. We're going to be very aggressive."

The Florida State Seminoles competed as an independent for the majority of their history before joining the ACC for the 1992 season. During its three-decade run in the conference, FSU has won three national championships, most recently winning it in the 2013 season.

But in July, SEC Network host Paul Finebaum said that both FSU and Clemson "want out of the ACC badly." With the Big Ten and SEC ramping up their strength with new additions (Texas and Oklahoma are set to join the latter), the Big 12, Pac-12, and ACC are struggling to keep up.

Florida State finished the 2021 season with a 5-7 record, its fourth straight year below .500.
