Former Florida starting QB Emory Jones transferring to Arizona State

Former Florida Gators starting quarterback Emory Jones has committed to play for the Arizona State Sun Devils, he announced Thursday, nearly two months after he entered the transfer portal in March.

Jones joined Florida as a highly touted prospect in 2018, choosing the school over offers from several other major programs, including Alabama, Ohio State, Florida State and Clemson. After seeing limited time in his first three season with the Gators, Jones took over as the starter in 2021 when Kyle Trask left for the NFL.

In 13 games, Jones threw 19 touchdowns with 13 interceptions and added four rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. But he was replaced in the lineup at times by redshirt freshman Anthony Richardson, who appeared to be the team's front-runner to start in 2022 even before Jones entered the transfer portal.

At Arizona State, Jones will join a program that has seen a significant portion of the roster leave via the transfer portal, including former starting quarterback Jayden Daniels.

The Sun Devils also had four players — RB Rachaad White, CB Jack Jones, DT D.J. Davidson and CB Chase Lucas — selected in the 2022 NFL Draft.
