Report: Arizona State QB Jayden Daniels to transfer to LSU

Arizona State starting quarterback Jayden Daniels is transferring to LSU, according to ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Daniels was ASU's starter in each of the last three seasons after becoming the first true freshman in school history to start the first game of the season in 2019. During his time with the Sun Devils, Daniels threw 32 touchdown passes with 13 interceptions and rushed for another 13 touchdowns.

His decision to enter the transfer portal in February reportedly came as a surprise to ASU as the program spurned interest from former Oklahoma quarterback Spencer Rattler when he spoke to the university about a potential transfer. Rattler instead transferred to South Carolina, and former Alabama quarterback Paul Tyson now appears to be the likely starter at ASU.

Daniels will now compete with Myles Brennan for the starting role at LSU. Brennan had a chance to start for the Tigers in 2021 but suffered a broken arm in a freak accident just before the beginning of the season. With Brennan out of action, the job instead went to sophomore Max Johnson.

Johnson transferred to Texas A&M in December. Brennan also entered the transfer portal during the 2021 season but exited in December.
