Former Georgia WR Dominick Blaylock transfers to rival school

Former University of Georgia wide receiver Dominick Blaylock entered the transfer portal in January.

Five months later, he's decided that he still wants to play college football in the state of Georgia, but he'll be doing so with the Bulldogs' in state rival, Georgia Tech.

Having entered the Bulldogs' program as a four-star 2019 wide receiver recruit, he put in four years at Georgia, got his degree, and is now looking forward to what the future holds at GT.

“Proud to say that I am graduating this week from the University of Georgia,” Blaylock told Rusty Mansell. “After talking to over 15 programs, I have decided to further my graduate studies and finish my eligibility at Georgia Tech. Thank you Athens and for everything and all the great memories. GO DAWGS”

This doesn't sound as much like a breakup as it is Blaylock moving on to what he hopes to be bigger and better things. It's worth noting that Blaylock did play in 31 games for the Bulldogs, but his 2020 season was axed due to a preseason injury and he was mostly a special teamer in 2021.

The 2022 season saw him play in all 15 games for Georgia, but he snagged just 15 receptions for 227 yards and a touchdown.

He's a two time national champion and he has plenty of experience, so perhaps his final year of eligibly at Georgia Tech will be his breakout year.

There's also the post-football world to consider, per his mother, Janelle Woods, who spoke with Mansell after the decision to transfer was announced.

“This decision was about the rest of his life for the path he wants to take after football. He is so excited to have his degree from Georgia as well. I think it is important for Bulldog fans to know he loved there and this is his next chapter for him," she said. "He can also be closer to his brothers who live in the city as well and they are very close. Going to Georgia Tech is really the next phase for him whether it is NFL or working in the IT world, which he is really interested in too. I think at this stage, Georgia Tech was the best spot for him, he can play football and learn further in their IT departments.”
