Earlier tonight, the Iowa Hawkeyes kicked off against the Michigan State Spartans at home in Kinnick Stadium. Entering today, Michigan football transfer quarterback Cade McNamara was seeking his first conference win as a Hawkeye. However, McNamara exited the game in the first quarter from a non-contact injury.

Former Michigan football quarterback Cade McNamara leaves game with leg injury

McNamara started today strong with three completions for 46 yards. However, his day was cut short after an attempted scramble led to a non-contact leg injury. McNamara was helped off the field and is not expected to return. Sophomore quarterback Deacon Hill is currently filling in for McNamara. The details and duration of McNamara’s current injury are still unknown.

Last season, McNamara fought for the first-string quarterback position at Michigan but lost out to JJ McCarthy. Shortly afterward, McNamara sustained a season-ending knee injury. McNamara entered the transfer portal for a fresh start in Iowa and has played with mixed results so far.

After battling injuries through training camp, McNamara came out firing and led the Hawkeyes to a 3-0 nonconference start before falling to Penn State.

Iowa currently trails by only three points in the fourth quarter. Deacon Hill is looking to lead the Hawkeyes to a home-game fourth-quarter comeback against the Spartans.
