Former Oregon Ducks quarterback Tyler Shough has entered the transfer portal.

Shough, who spent the last three seasons with the Texas Tech Red Raiders, announced his decision over social media on Sunday.

"Though I wish my time here could have been different, I believe everything happens for a reason and that hard work will prevail," Shough penned in a letter. "It is in my best interest to enter the transfer portal and look for a new opportunity to play a full year and pursue my goal of being an NFL QB."

Shough suffered a fractured fibula, a bone in the lower leg, earlier this year in a 20-13 loss to West Virginia. He played just four games in 2023, which would preserve an extra year eligibility for a medical redshirt.

His three-year career in Lubbock was marred by injuries, but in 15 total games he threw for 2,922 yards and 20 touchdowns against 11 interceptions, completing 62% of his passes. The 6-foot-5, 230-pound quarterback also contributed in the run game, rushing for 432 yards and 8 touchdowns on 136 carries.

Red Raiders head coach Joey McGuire took to social media to express his gratitude to Shough for his time in the Texas Tech program and applaud his character.

Shough will have one more season of college eligibility in 2024. The senior quarterback originally signed with Oregon as a four-star recruit in the 2018 class out of Chandler (Ariz.) Hamilton High School.

Oregon will be looking for a new starting quarterback next season, with Bo Nix moving onto the NFL. Of the players on the roster, sophomore Ty Thompson looks like the most likely candidate for the starting job.

He threw for a touchdown and an interception this weekend against Arizona State and has completed 24 of his 31 passes this season for 297 yards and 4 touchdowns.
