The Penn State football team saw a wave of players enter the transfer portal last Thursday. When the damage appeared to not be very severe the Nittany Lions had a wave of five players enter the portal on May 2nd. Four of which were on scholarship. One of those players was veteran offensive lineman Golden Israel-Achumba who has recently been a hot commodity in the transfer portal. The ex-Nittany Lion has now picked up offers from Buffalo, Akron, and Central Michigan.

Former Penn State football player picks up multiple offers in the transfer portal

Golden Israel-Achumba entered the transfer portal officially on May 2nd. He was a member of the 2020 recruiting class for the Penn State football team. Listed as a three-star interior offensive line prospect from Hyattsville, Maryland. Israel-Achumba was the No. 18 prospect in the 2020 cycle in Maryland.

During his time at Penn State, he appeared in 15 games but was not expected to be part of the starting rotation for the Nittany Lions this fall. So, now Israel-Achumba is in the transfer portal seeking that opportunity.

It has not taken long as on Thursday he announced that the Buffalo Bulls of the MAC offered Israel-Achumba a scholarship.

Less than an hour later, he picked up an offer from former Penn State offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead and the Akron Zips . Moorhead has been down this path before. He ended up signing former Nittany Lion offensive lineman Anthony Whigan ahead of the 2022 season. It’s safe to say that the interest is high for the Golden Israel-Achumba as he looks to find a new home soon with Buffalo and Akron drawing interest. But they are not the only two schools.

On Saturday, Israel-Achumba announced that a third MAC school has offered him a scholarship from the transfer portal. This one coming from Central Michigan.

Ex-Penn State captain commits to Sun Belt powerhouse

On Wednesday former Penn State wide receiver and team captain, Malick Meiga announced his pledge to his new school. Meiga will go on to play for the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers for the 2024 season. He entered the transfer portal on April 16th and he picked up offers from Nevada and Deleware while in the portal.

During his Penn State career Meiga secured nine catches for 109 yards and one touchdown. While his role was a special teams ace in Happy Valley, it will be interesting to watch his role expand more in the 2024 season with the Chanticleers.
