Former Wisconsin Badgers quarterback Jon Budmayr has earned a promotion at the University of Iowa after spending the past two seasons serving as an offensive analyst on the football team and special assistant to the head coach.
“My wife and I are very appreciative to have the opportunity to be at Iowa,” Budmayr said in a press release. “I have so much respect for Coach Ferentz and the program he’s built over many years.
“I’m excited to work for him and alongside the great people on our staff. I’m also very appreciative of the opportunity to work with an incredible group of student-athletes and help them develop on and off the field.”

Jon Budmayr was a backup quarterback for the Wisconsin football program from 2009-11 before he was forced to retire for medical reasons. He appeared in three games and completed 8 of 10 passes for 134 yards and a touchdown.
Budmayr recently joined the Iowa staff following his tenure at Colorado State, where he held the positions of offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in 2021.
Before his time at Colorado State, Budmayr spent six successful seasons with the Wisconsin football team. The last three came as quarterbacks coach for notable Badgers players such as Jack Coan and Graham Mertz.
During Budmayr’s tenure, Badgers quarterbacks achieved several feats worth mentioning, such as Coan’s record-breaking 236 completions in 2019, setting a new school record. Coan’s 2019 season also saw him rank third in Wisconsin football history for passing yards, totaling 2,727, and his completion rate of 69.6% also stood as the third-best in school history.
Wishing Coach Budmayr all the best in his new role coaching wide receivers, except, of course, when Iowa faces off against Wisconsin.
