Kansas walk-on Jared Casey caught game-winner in his first-ever offensive snaps

The Kansas Jayhawks completed a titanic upset Saturday night by beating the Texas Longhorns, 57-56, in overtime to snap a 56-game road losing streak in Big 12 play. Adding another layer to the Cinderella story was the fact that the game-winning two-point conversion was caught by Jared Casey, a walk-on fullback/tight end who said he'd never played an offensive snap before Saturday.

According to the Kansas City Star, Casey was forced into action on offense for the first time due to injuries suffered by his teammates Spencer Roe and Mason Fairchild.

"This is my first offensive experience of the year. I've been on special teams, but this is my first time being on offense," Casey told reporters after the game, via the Star. "It's just a surreal moment for me."

The next morning, Casey's brother posted a video of his parents watching the final play from just behind the opposite end zone and slowly realizing that it was their son who was the hero of the game.

Kansas entered the game with an eight-game losing streak and a 18-game conference losing streak. Instead it was Texas that extended its losing streak to five, the longest stretch of the losses for the program since 1956.
