The Liberty Flames have to be proud of the season that they had in 2023. While the blowout bowl game loss wasn’t ideal, there is no shame in getting blown out by Oregon. Unfortunately, a successful season means losing talented players to the transfer portal. Shortly after quarterback Kaidon Salter announced he was entering the portal, star cornerback Kobe Singleton announced he was doing the same.

Liberty Flames CB Kobe Singleton Enters Transfer Portal

Singleton has spent two seasons with the Flames and has been one of their best corners. In two years he has recorded 67 tackles, six interceptions, and 24 passes defended. He mostly plays outside corner making him very attractive for a big-name program. Singleton had this to say in a statement.

“I will be entering the transfer portal with 1 year of eligibility. Thank you to Liberty for making a great home & culture. Thanks to all the coaches as well as this was one of the best years of my life. Tomorrow I will be officially in! FLAMES.”

Nature Of Success In The Group Of 5

With the transfer portal being more accessible than ever, smaller schools will continue to see this type of exodus after a successful season. Every Group of 5 program that makes it to a New Year’s Six bowl game will likely see their best players leave for other programs. These star players get an opportunity to make more NIL money as well as play for a larger program that can give them more exposure. It stinks for the program but it is great for the players.

Can the Liberty Flames defy expectations and be good again next season? It seems unlikely but they clearly have found something that worked this season and might be able to replicate it in the future.
