Thought the Egg Bowl was over? In Mississippi, it never sleeps.

After falling to the Ole Miss Rebels in the annual in-state rivalry game, the Mississippi State Bulldogs quickly pulled the trigger on their new head coach, and he is a familiar face to Ole Miss fans. Jeff Lebby, who served as the Rebels' offensive coordinator in the 2020-21 seasons, is now the new face of the Bulldogs' program, bringing a new level of intrigue to one of the most heated rivalries in college football.

Lane Kiffin knows that, and, per usual, he is already way ahead of the game on social media in regards to the hire.

For starters, Kiffin dug up an old tweet from Lebby in the 2021 season where he is wearing "We Run The Sip" branded socks and shared that post on Saturday night. Lebby's post from two years ago is captioned, "Friendly reminder" in reference to Ole Miss' win over Mississippi State that season.

Second, he quoted this post on X, the platform previously known as Twitter, on Sunday, welcoming Lebby back to Mississippi. Take a look below.

On this post, Kiffin replied to himself and said, "I knew you missed the food!!"

Lebby is a proven offensive mind at the Power Five level, seeing success at both Ole Miss and his alma mater of Oklahoma in recent seasons. The potential drawback on the hire for State is that he has no head coaching experience at this level, but you have to start somewhere, and Lebby has worked with some talented coaches in his past.

There is still almost a calendar year until the next edition of the Egg Bowl, but Ole Miss earned the most recent laugh in the series on Thanksgiving night when they took down the Bulldogs 17-7 in Starkville, giving Kiffin a 3-1 record against State since he took the Ole Miss job.

That win also gave the Rebels their second-ever 10-win regular season in school history, the first of which came in 2021 when Lebby was the team's offensive coordinator. Ole Miss is now awaiting its bowl game destination for the postseason, and you can see some of the latest projections here.
