There has been some chatter recently about a return to Michigan football by former Wolverine Nikhai Hill-Green, who played extensively on the 2021 team that won the Big Ten championship.

Hill-Green missed the 2022 season due to injury and played last season for Charlotte, notching 73 tackles for Biff Poggi. He entered the transfer portal this spring, but according to Pete Nakos of On3.com, Hill-Green has narrowed his list down to Colorado, Arkansas, Louisville, and Missouri.

Some Michigan football fans were hoping the Wolverines would add some depth at linebacker. Yet, with Jimmy Rolder, Jaydon Hood, Cole Sullivan, and others stepping up during the spring, Michigan could get by with what they have. Ernest Hausmann and Jaishawn Barham are locked in as the starters, so Hill-Green would have likely been coming off the bench, whereas he can surely find a starting job somewhere else.

Michigan football also misses on transfer wideout

Not only were the Wolverines eliminated from the recruitment of Hill-Green, but Kyle Ford, the former UCLA wide receiver who had Michigan fooball in his top five, is going back to USC.

Ford played for the Trojans before he transferred to play for UCLA. That’s not that important from a Michigan football perspective, but that is one veteran wideout off the board.

It was clear that another receiver is needed during the spring game. Michigan has just five scholarship receivers right now and while Fred Moore, Tyler Morris, and Kendrick Bell played well, the Wolverines could use a big body to play on the outside.

I do expect an addition there and maybe one in the secondary. CJ West is a possibility at defensive tackle, but wide receiver and quarterback remain the biggest needs.
