Celtics trio makes NBA playoffs history in Game 1 win

The Celtics have banked on their two J's in recent years. They now have a third J to call upon, especially in crucial playoff moments.

By scoring 28 points in Tuesday's Game 1 win over the Pacers — his most as a Celtic — Jrue Holiday made history alongside Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown.

The trio had three steals each to go with a combined 90 points between them, setting an NBA postseason record in the process. Furthermore, this was the first time in Celtics history that three players tallied 25 or more points in a conference finals game.

According to the NBA, only eight other trios had managed the feat since the 1970-71 season when the league initiated the concept of conferences.

In an encouraging sign for the Celtics, all three J's made critical plays that either swung the momentum in their favor or saved them from defeat.

While Brown made the clutch three to send the game to overtime, Holiday came up with a steal in the extra period when Boston was up 124-123. As for Tatum, he scored 10 of Boston's 16 overtime points to clinch the 133-128 victory.

After the game, Tatum tipped his hat to his two fellow J's and the rest of his team for pulling off the OT thriller.

"It's simple: big time players make big time plays," Tatum told reporters. "Jrue Holiday played unbelievable tonight on both ends of the floor. [Derrick] White as well. This was the definition of a team win."
