Nebraska football wide receiver Alante Brown announced he was hitting the transfer portal on Saturday evening. He made the announcement on Twitter.

Brown was a part of the 2020 recruiting class.  he recorded 22 catches for 262 yards, averaging 11.9 yards per reception in three seasons in Lincoln. He had his most productive year last season, when he caught 16 passes for 191 yards. Brown appeared in all 12 games for Nebraska football last season.

Brown made a bit of an impact his freshman season, when he played in six games and caught three passes for 41 yards.

What does this mean for Nebraska football?

This is not a major loss for Nebraska football. The wide receiver position is one of the strongest ones for the program, and the depth at the position is plentiful.

Consider the 2023 recruiting class alone. Malachi Coleman, Jaidyn Doss Jeremiah Charles,  Brice Turner , and Billy Kemp are all part of the 2023 class. Add that to the players already on the roster, and there are just not enough touches to go around. Recruiting the receiver position is not going to be a problem for this coaching staff.

Brown showed potential during his time with the program. He just was never able to put it all together. Speed was perhaps the biggest part of his game, and he was able to showcase that a bit during his time in Lincoln.

This is just another case of spring ball attrition, and there is surely more to be had once the spring practice timeframe concludes. The spring transfer window opened Saturday and will close on April 30.

This is a good move for both parties, as now Brown will be able potentially to showcase his talents at a greater degree somewhere else. It will be interesting to see if Nebraska football will have any more players enter the portal.
