Oklahoma redshirt freshman wide receiver Nic Anderson was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Monday.

Anderson's award comes on the heels of an impressive performance against UCF that helped lead the Sooners to a two point victory over the Golden Knights. On Saturday, Anderson had a career-high five catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns.

This is Anderson's second Big 12 Newcomer of the Week honor of the season, as the redshirt freshman won the award following an impressive performance against Tulsa that saw the Katy, TX, native haul in three passes for 120 yards and three touchdowns.

Anderson has had an incredible season thus far, recording 16 catches for 387 yards and eight touchdowns in seven games. The 6-foot-4 pass catcher is the Big 12 leader in touchdown catches this season and is averaging a whopping 24.2 yards per catch, which ranks second nationally.

All eight of Anderson's touchdown catches have come since Sept. 16, which is the most in college football during that stretch.

Additionally, Anderson's 50% touchdown catch rate is the highest in the country and would be the highest since for a single season since 1996.

After a disappointing true freshman season that was plagued by injuries, Anderson has been on a tear this season.

Against Texas in the Red River Rivalry, the former 4-star recruit snagged the game-winning touchdown with less than 20 seconds left in the contest.

With the Sooners' leading receiver, Andrel Anthony, out for the season, Anderson should become a regular in the starting lineup. As the redshirt freshman continues to earn more snaps in Jeff Lebby's offense, he will have the chance to take over as one of Oklahoma's primary offensive weapons.
