Ole Miss offers free popcorn after Lane Kiffin gaffe

Ahead of last Saturday's matchup against the top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide, Ole Miss Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin told viewers to "get your popcorn ready" before he literally dropped the microphone — or headset, in this case — and got to work:

That decision ended poorly for Kiffin and company, as Alabama took a 28-0 lead into halftime and ultimately held a comfortable 42-7 advantage before it closed out a stress-free 42-21 victory.

If nothing else, Kiffin deserves credit for being able to laugh at himself.

As Chris Low wrote for ESPN, Ole Miss is giving away free popcorn to the first 5,000 fans in attendance for this Saturday's game against the Arkansas Razorbacks. Kiffin referenced the promotion and a humorous photo tweeted out by the football program on Thursday:

Earlier in the day, Kiffin "thanked" Ole Miss and Alabama football fans for popcorn supposedly sent to him this week:

"That was not premeditated," Kiffin later explained about his popcorn-related miscue, per Isaac Trotter of 247Sports. "Sometimes you get caught up in emotions, and I just heard someone yelling in the locker room and someone saying that. I don’t even know why it came out. I actually got on the headset and told [offensive coordinator Jeff] Lebby, 'I just said something really stupid. You better score a lot of points.'"
