Former NFL Executive Mike Lombardi dropped a minor bombshell on Friday, revealing that new Ohio State offensive coordinator Chip Kelly interviewed and did not get the Cincinnati head coaching job last season.

The Bearcats obviously went with Scott Satterfield instead as Kelly starts coaching in the Buckeye State a year later.

"Chip's been trying to get out of UCLA," Lombardi said on The Pat McAfee Show. "He interviewed for the Cincinnati job last year. I don't know if many people know that but he did. He didn't get that job."

Cincinnati went on to have its worst football win/loss record this century (3-9) during a tough transition with coach, roster, and conference. He gets a nice schedule to stack some more wins and return to bowl relevancy this coming season.

It's an interesting what-if scenario for UC, who didn't see Kelly as the right fit compared to their current head man. The former head coach holds an 81-41 record, including a 2012 Rose Bowl win.
