Report: Four Arizona State coaches, including OC Zak Hill, out due to recruiting violations

Arizona State offensive coordinator Zak Hill and three other assistant coaches are no longer with the program due to the findings of an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations, according to ESPN.

The Sun Devils football program has been under investigation since June 2021 due to allegations that the university hosted high school recruits during the COVID-19 dead period in 2020. Three of the team's coaches -- tight ends coach Adam Breneman, wide receivers coach Prentice Gill, and defensive backs coach Chris Hawkins -- spent the entire 2021 season on leave.

Hill, who was hired by ASU in 2019 after spending four seasons as Boise State's offensive coordinator, was an active member of the Sun Devils coaching staff in 2021. After the season, Hill was believed to be the favorite to take over as Auburn's offensive coordinator, but the team was reportedly hesitant to finalize the deal due to the possibility that Hill would be implicated in the NCAA's investigation into ASU.

That eventually came to fruition this week when ASU was reportedly informed of Hill's wrongdoing. Now all four coaches -- Hill, Breneman, Gill, and Hawkins -- are out.

The Sun Devils are set to begin a fifth season with former New York Jets and Kansas City Chiefs coach Herm Edwards at the helm. The team is 25-18 in four seasons with Edwards and added former Super Bowl winning coach Brian Billick to the staff as an offensive analyst last week.
