SEC commissioner Greg Sankey to attend Red River Showdown

For years, the Red River Showdown between Texas and Oklahoma has been one of the Big 12 conference's biggest games and attractions.

The Red River rivalry between the Longhorns and Sooners goes back to 1990 and the game between the two programs has been played yearly, uninterrupted, since 1929.

With Oklahoma and Texas about to jump ship to the SEC in 2024, though, the showdown is a huge piece of marketing and hype that's about to change hands, conference-wise. And it seems its new owner, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey, wants to be on hand to watch it happen.

According to Ross Dellenger, Sankey is expected to be in attendance this Saturday when the two programs meet Saturday afternoon at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas, Texas.

That's a bold move by Sankey and it's likely to rub Big 12 fans — and especially Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark — the wrong way.

With that said, it's just human nature, right? When you buy a car you want to test drive it. When you buy a house, you do an inspection and a final walk-through.

That's all Sankey is doing, but it sure does come across as a power play in this new era of College Football expansion.
