A speedy wide receiver that's from Tennessee has entered the NCAA transfer portal according to On3

And he's a player that the Tennessee Vols should at least take a look at.

On3 reported on Wednesday that Purdue wide receiver TJ Sheffield has entered the portal. Sheffield caught 32 passes for 381 yards (second leading receiver for the Boilermakers) and two touchdowns this past season. He caught 46 passes for 480 yards and four touchdowns in 2022.

Sheffield, 5-foot-11/190 lbs, is from Thompson's Station, TN. He was rated as a three-star recruit in the 2019 class and he was recruited by Jeremy Pruitt's staff and Butch Jones' staff. In fact, Sheffield was committed to Tennessee at one point, but he decommitted in 2017 amid Jones' struggles during his final season with the Vols. Notre Dame also showed interest in Sheffield, who was rated as the No. 12 player in the state of Tennessee in 2019, before he ultimately landed at Purdue.

While Sheffield hasn't put up gaudy numbers at Purdue (they weren't a good team overall this season), he's still a player the Vols should consider.

Sheffield, who has one year of eligibility remaining, has speed. And he could be a good plug-n-play option for Tennessee since he played in an Air Raid system this past season at Purdue. The Vols don't run an air raid system, but there are similar concepts that could help him pick up Tennessee's offense quicker than most wide receivers (Javonta Payton came from an Air System when he transferred to Tennessee in 2021 and he caught 18 passes for 413 yards and six touchdowns in his lone season with the Vols).

Tennessee needs some experienced wide receiver depth and Sheffield could be a good option.
