Texas Longhorns RB Keaontay Ingram out 'a few weeks' with ankle sprain

The high-ankle sprain that Texas Longhorns starting running back Keaontay Ingram suffered in the upset win over the Oklahoma State Cowboys this past weekend will cause him to miss at least Saturday's upcoming game against the West Virginia Mountaineers.

"It does not require surgery, but he's gonna be out a few weeks," coach Tom Herman told reporters on Tuesday, per Sam Khan Jr. of ESPN.

Ingram begins November second on the Longhorns behind only quarterback Sam Ehlinger with 250 rushing yards on the campaign. Ehlinger has gained 284 yards on the ground.

Ingram has also contributed two total touchdowns and 11 receptions for 4-2 Texas. He led the Longhorns in 2019 with 853 rushing yards.

Sophomore Roschon Johnson and true freshman Bijan Robinson are expected to move up the Texas depth chart during Ingram's absence. Johnson has gained 192 rushing yards on 53 carries, while Robinson has 181 yards on 39 attempts.

"We're gonna lean on [Bijan] and Roschon pretty heavily in this game," Herman said of his plan for Saturday.

Texas has a bye week before a showdown with the Kansas Jayhawks on Nov. 21. It's unknown if Ingram will be available for that game.

Charlie Campbell of Walter Football has listed Ingram as the 10th best prospect at the position for next year's NFL Draft.

"Ingram is a built power back who is also a dangerous receiver out of the backfield," Campbell explains. "He was a nice outlet receiver for Sam Ehlinger over the past two seasons and showed an impressive ability to adjust to passes for a thickly built back. If Ingram shows the speed to hit the hole and dominates as a runner, he could become a rising prospect."
