Texas' Steve Sarkisian refuses to say whether QB Quinn Ewers will return Saturday

All indications are that Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers is nearing a return from a left shoulder injury he suffered against Alabama, but Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian is staying quiet on whether that return will come this weekend.

“How long have I been doing interviews with you guys? Do you think I’d really give an to that answer? No. Valid question, I understand, but I’m not going to tell you," Sarkisian told reporters Thursday ahead of Saturday's matchup with West Virginia.

Sarkisian is correct that it is a valid question, considering he is given plenty of positive updates on Ewers' progress lately. Sarkisian said Thursday, “He’s been throwing now for about two to two and a half weeks and has gradually improved," adding that the decision of whether or not to play him will also have Ewers' best interests in mind.

Ewers is "chomping at the bit" to return, according to Sarkisian. Hudson Card has filled in for Ewers since the first half of the loss to Alabama. Texas lost in overtime to Texas Tech last weekend, though defensive failures and fumbles were a bigger factor than Card's performance.

Ewers transferred from Ohio State last winter and isn't draft-eligible until 2024, so he is locked in as Texas' starter for the foreseeable future.
