The Ohio State football program had to get rid of all of their wins in 2010. It was because of the lamest so-called “scandal” in College Football history. Five players sold the gold pants that they earned from beating Michigan to buy tattoos. They sold their own property for services from someone else. Gene Smith paid a hefty price.
That’s not a crime, nor should it have resulted in an NCAA violation. The Buckeyes ended up having big-time sanctions, including all of the players involved getting suspended. Terrelle Pryor, DeVier Posey, Mike Brewster, Solomon Thomas, and Mike Adams were the guys who were involved. Jim Tressel also lost his college football career over this.
It’s time the Ohio State football program gets their wins back
With the news that Reggie Bush is getting his Heisman back, it’s time the Buckeyes get their wins restored. Bush actually took money from a booster and used it to buy his mom a house. That’s way more egregious than what these Ohio State football players did. They just sold their own property for other things.
Ohio State won the Sugar Bowl that season. Yet if you look in the record books, it doesn’t exist. The NCAA needs to do the right thing and restore those wins now that they are doing this for Bush. Not only is it the right thing, but it’s the logical thing to do. With how the NIL landscape is now, the Buckeyes should have those wins.
NIL has changed the NCAA landscape dramatically. That means that Ohio State shouldn’t be punished for something that wouldn’t even make the local news now. The organization needs to evolve with the times so that they don’t get replaced. That’s the biggest issue that they face in the future.
We’ll see if the NCAA decides to do the right thing, but knowing them, they probably won’t.
