The race for K.J. Wallace ended in Westwood on Wednesday when UCLA made the official announcement that the defensive back is joining the Bruins for next season.
His courtship involved other Power 5 teams such as Wisconsin and Oklahoma State. Ultimately, Wallace chose UCLA and should immediately replenish a depleted secondary.
There were a few signs on Wallace's social media that pointed towards the Bruins. He reposted the coaching announcements of Tony Washington Jr. and Billy Fessler. He didn't share or repost anything from the other programs vying for his commitment.
Wallace, who spent the last two seasons in his hometown of Atlanta, announced his intent to transfer on Dec. 29, 2023.
In those two seasons, Wallace collected 42 tackles and eight passes defended. Before his tenure in Atlanta, Wallace played two seasons at Notre Dame where he saw action in 17 games over three seasons, including the COVID-shortened 2020 season.
Listed at 5-11 and 185 pounds, Wallace has played primarily at nickel cornerback for both the Yellow Jackets and Fighting Irish.
Landing Wallace is a huge get for UCLA head coach Chip Kelly who desperately needs to retool his defense. Hopefully, this addition will bring more announcements.
