University of Louisiana-Monroe pauses CFB workouts due to COVID-19 cases

The Associated Press (h/t ESPN) reported on Friday that the University of Louisiana-Monroe became the latest program to pause football practices due to the discovery of positive coronavirus cases.

Nine new positive COVID-19 tests from earlier this week were confirmed, per athletic director Scott McDonald.

"We'll await the latest round of test results while continuing to monitor our quarantined and isolated student-athletes," McDonald said.

As mentioned by the program's official website, UL Monroe head coach Matt Viator added: "We'll resume preseason practice once all of the COVID-19 Task Force protocols have been satisfied."

Members of the Sun Belt Conference, the Warhawks are scheduled to open their season versus Troy on Sept. 5.

Earlier this week, Tulsa, North Carolina, and Notre Dame all temporarily suspended football practices due to positive coronavirus test results.
