It’s no secret that the Wisconsin football program got minimal production in Phil Longo’s offense from the Badgers tight end room in 2023. The trio of Hayden Rucci, Tucker Ashcraft, and Riley Nowakowski combined for just 24 catches for 254 yards and two touchdowns.
That’s why adding a handful of bodies to the tight end room — which was riddled with injuries and lost a pair of expected contributors before fall camp, has become increasingly important. I’ve been told to keep an eye on LSU Tigers transfer Jackson McGohan — as a potential target.
Freshman cornerback Amare Snowden, Wisconsin’s unofficial online recruiting maestro, has already reached out online. Still, the Miamisburg, Ohio native has a prior relationship with Luke Fickell and several members of his coaching staff that could add a little steam to this recruitment.
Wisconsin Football Is Expected to Be a Player for LSU Transfer Jackson McGohan.
Jackson McGohan was considered the No. 25 tight end in the 2023 recruiting class coming out of Miamisburg High School. He initially committed to play for Luke Fickell while still at Cincinnati but de-committed after he left to take the Wisconsin football head coaching gig.
The 6-foot-3, 235-pound tight end committed to LSU shortly after that and appeared in eight games as a true freshman for the Tigers, primarily playing on special teams, and didn’t record any counting stats.
McGohan has three years of eligibility remaining and was a productive tight end in high school, catching 52 passes for 941 yards and 12 touchdowns in his senior year. He’s known for his route running and contested catch ability, making him a better fit for the direction the Wisconsin football team wants to go on offense.
The Wisconsin Badgers recruiting department is working tirelessly to establish a board, quickly build relationships, and get players on campus for visits, so nothing is imminent here. But you can expect Coach Fickell to kick the tires on an old flame, according to what I’ve been told.
As it stands, Wisconsin football coaches are still waiting on word from Hayden Rucci to see if he’ll use his extra year of eligibility, and they’ll also welcome four-star tight end Grant Stec to the position group heading into 2024.
