Spring transfer portal action is in full swing, and the Wisconsin football program has started to make some contacts.

Rivals’ Marshall Levenson reported on Wednesday that UW was among the schools to have touched base with Louisville RB Peny Boone, who entered his name into the portal after spending four months with the Cardinals.

Boone was a former four-star running back in the 2020 recruiting class. He initially committed to Maryland and spent his first two college seasons with the Terrapins. Boone recorded 258 yards and two touchdowns across those two seasons.

Boone transferred to Toledo after the 2021 one season, where he spent two years. In 2023, he recorded 1,400 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns on 194 carries, good for an average of 7.2 yards per attempt. With those marks, Boone was named the MAC Offensive Player of the Year.

After two successful seasons with the Rockets, Boone entered the transfer portal and committed to Louisville in January. Former Badgers running back Isaac Guerrendo used the last of his eligibility, leaving Boone the opportunity to come in and compete for the starting role. He was also in competition with other RBs including Miami transfer Donald Chaney, Maurice Turner, Keyjuan Brown, and Isaac Brown for the RB1 job.

Boone will head to a new school with one year of eligibility remaining.

The former MAC Offensive Player of the Year has no shortage of suitors, as he has also heard from Washington, Miami, Colorado, Michigan State, Oregon State, North Carolina, and UCLA, among many others.

As the running back roster currently stands heading into 2024, Wisconsin will have Chez Mellusi back to fill a starting role with Oklahoma transfer Tawee Walker bringing some experience as a backup. Behind those two, the Badgers have Cade Yacamelli, Jackson Acker, Grover Bortolotti, and Nate White, plus some intriguing true freshmen in Darrion Dupree, Dilin Jones, and Gideon Ituka.
