Knicks get major OG Anunoby update before Game 1 of ECF

Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks are coming up on Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Tuesday. The Cavs are hot off a road win over the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, while the Knicks have been resting since their sweep over the Philadelphia 76ers on May 10. So, the Knicks have the advantage of being rested up and ready to go. Now, New York has another advantage. They just got an OG Anunoby update that's nothing but good news. Knicks get great OG Anunoby update ahead of Game 1 vs. Cavaliers After plenty of questions surrounding OG Anunoby's hamstring injury, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania delivered a clear and positive update Monday on "The Pat McAfee Show." According to Charania's report, Anunoby is expected to be able to play in Game 1, set for Tuesday evening at Madison Square Garden. "You're going to have a little bit of rust maybe to start, but OG Anunoby is going to be playing in Game 1," Charania said. "He suffered a low-grade hamstring strain against the Sixers, missed the last two games of that series." He added, "Thankfully for them, it was a sweep, allowed him to rest. And now, because they were able to get even more additional days, he's going to be good to go for Game 1 tomorrow night." That is big news for the Knicks as the team gets ready for this significant series. Anunoby experienced a low-grade right hamstring strain while playing in Game 2 of the Knicks' second-round series against the 76ers. Before the injury, Anunoby had been playing extremely well, so it was a blow to the team to lose him, even though they were still able to sweep the 76ers. If Anunoby stays healthy and can play against the Cavaliers, that increases the Knicks' chances of taking down Cleveland in what's shaping up to be a close and contentious series.

Sabres add to Buffalo's painful playoff misery with overtime Game 7 loss to Canadiens

No one does misery like Buffalo. A city with its share of playoff heartbreaks added another crushing defeat to its history when the Buffalo Sabres fell at home on Monday in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference semifinals to the Montreal Canadiens, 3-2, in overtime. The Sabres trailed 2-0 after the first period but rallied to force the extra period, which ended on Candiens forward Alex Newhook's second Game 7 series-clinching goal of these playoffs. The loss marks a disappointing end to the season for the Sabres, who were the best story of the regular season after snapping a 14-year playoff drought. It's a feeling that's all too common in Buffalo, which for decades has been defined by devastating postseason results. Sabres add to Buffalo's long history of playoff heartbreak with 3-2 overtime loss to Montreal Canadiens The Sabres, who have an NHL-record 30 playoff appearances without a Stanley Cup title, largely controlled Game 7 after the first 20 minutes, generating 16 high-danger scoring chances — compared to the Canadiens' eight — in the second and third periods and overtime, per Natural Stat Trick. Buffalo led in expected goals (5.1) but squandered the superior performance, allowing Montreal to escape with the win. It was the second demoralizing end to a season for Buffalo sports this year after the Bills lost in overtime to the Denver Broncos in the NFL's AFC divisional round. As rough as that is, it's relatively tame compared to what the city's endured in previous years, from the Bills' 2021 AFC divisional round loss to the Kansas City Chiefs, losing the "Music City Miracle" to the Tennessee Titans (1999) and four consecutive Super Bowls from 1990-93. The Sabres are part of that history, too, with Brett Hull's triple-overtime "no goal" in Game 6 of the 1999 Stanley Cup Final that clinched the title for the Dallas Stars still among the most controversial calls in NHL history. Monday's loss wasn't nearly as painful, but it's still another tough playoff loss for championship-starved Buffalo. Perhaps one of these years, it will have a title to celebrate. When — "If" may be the better word — it happens, results like Monday's will be that moment even sweeter.

Urban Meyer's time with Jaguars officially ends with a whimper

The Jacksonville Jaguars fired Urban Meyer after just 11 months as head coach. Otherwise known as a legendary coach on the college football field, Meyer went 2-11 in the NFL, and his time in Jacksonville came complete with off-field incidents as well as an alleged kick of his kicker. It was a disastrous tenure for Meyer, but he tried to salvage his time in Jacksonville by suing the organization for wrongful termination. Meyer took the Jaguars to court in an effort to try to get over $30 million that he would have been owed for the final four years of his contract. That grievance against his old team has failed, though. According to Brett McMurphy of On3, an independent arbiter ruled that the Jags fired Meyer with cause. Witnesses in court included Meyer, long-snapper Ross Matiscik, punter Logan Cook, kicker Josh Lambo and former Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke. In December of 2021, Lambo alleged that Meyer had kicked him in the leg while he was stretching. ‘Hey, Dips^$*, make your f$#%@$% kicks!", Meyer allegedly said. Urban Meyer's time with Jacksonville Jaguars was a disaster That moment clearly played a role in court, but it's worth remembering that Meyer also had several other indiscretions as head coach in Jacksonville. He racked up $300,000 in fines for violations of offseason workout rules. He skipped a team flight home after a Thursday night loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and instead found himself tied up with a female who wasn't his wife at his Ohio bar in a leaked video. Heck, he tried to revive Tim Tebow's failed career as a tight end. His time in Jacksonville was a disaster, and with the Jags now off the hook for $30 million or more, it's now officially ended in a whimper.

Former Lions standout Taylor Decker somehow still a free agent

The Detroit Lions have made plenty of moves during the offseason as they create a fresh offense under new offensive coordinator Drew Petzing and try to come back from their last-place showing in the NFC North in 2025. One of the moves the Lions made during the offseason that raised eyebrows was cutting ties with offensive tackle Taylor Decker. The player asked for his release after the Lions wanted him to take a pay cut, which is something he didn't want to do. So, Decker became a free agent earlier this year, and he's still in that position. Now, he's making waves and being named the No. 1 best remaining free agent in the entire NFL. Ex-Lions player Taylor Decker is the No. 1 available NFL free agent On Saturday, Matt Bowen of ESPN called Decker the top remaining free agent on the market. "Decker asked for his release from the Lions after 10 seasons in Detroit," Bowen wrote, adding that what makes Decker stand out is his numbers. "In 2025, Decker had a pass block win rate of 89.3%, the second lowest of his career. However, with the toughness and intangibles he brings, he will have a market at a premium position." It's certainly the case that Decker had a standout season in 2025, and that's why his stock is so high in free agency. It's a bit puzzling why a team hasn't lapped him up yet, but it's only a matter of time before it happens. He should be signed this summer, and if not, when injuries start to hit next season, Decker won't be a free agent for long.
