Billie Eilish opens up about 'miserable' bout with COVID-19: 'I still have side effects'

Billie Eilish is always up to something, but she revealed to Howard Stern that a serious case of COVID-19 kept her down for two months earlier this year.

The seven-time Grammy winner and Finneas, her brother and acclaimed producer, were visiting the studio of The Howard Stern Show for Monday's (Dec. 13) episode, and her cough prompted the obvious question: "Are you sick?"

"I am," Eilish, 19, responded. "I also had COVID already. Nobody knows that. But f—k that s—t, dude. It was bad. I mean, I didn't die and I wasn't gonna die, but that does not take away from how miserable it was. I mean, it was terrible. I still have side effects. I was sick for, like, two months. This was in August."

Stern pointed out that Eilish contracted the coronavirus after getting fully vaccinated.

"Yeah," she confirmed. "But I want it to be clear that it is because of the vaccine that I'm fine. I think if I weren't vaccinated I would have, like, died because it was bad. When I say it was bad, I more mean just mean that it felt horrible, but really in the scheme of COVID, it was not bad. You know what I mean? When you're sick, it feels f—king horrible. When you have a cold—I have a cold right now—when you have the flu, it feels like you're dying when you're OK."

"So when I say it's bad, it's not like, 'Oh, my God, I was gonna die of COVID and the vaccine doesn't work,'" Eilish continued. "The vaccine is f—king amazing, and it also saved Finneas from getting it. It saved my parents from getting it. It saved my friends from getting it."

Eilish is fresh off pulling double duty on Saturday Night Live, hosting and performing. It marked her first time hosting but second time as the musical guest, after the Season 45 premiere in September 2019. With Stern, she discussed how anxious she was in the week leading up to Saturday (Dec. 11)—enough to cause her to vomit:

Elsewhere on the show, Eilish and Finneas learned in real time that they are nominated for "No Time to Die" (best original song, motion picture) at the upcoming 79th Golden Globes on Jan. 9, 2022, and they talked about having dinner at Elton John's house. Watch the clips below.
