Emma Stone recalls receiving Oscar from childhood crush Leonardo DiCaprio: 'He was the love of my life'

The first thing Emma Stone did when she made it up to the stage after being named best actress at the 89th Academy Awards in January 2017 was point toward Leonardo DiCaprio, who had presented the award, and twist her face in disbelief.

There was good reason for that.

While visiting with SiriusXM last week, the 32-year-old actress was asked what she remembers about walking to the stage to accept her best actress Oscar:

"Leonardo DiCaprio. That was what was going through my mind. 'Cause it was him. And I was like—I had seen Titanic seven and a half times in theaters. He was the love of my life. I had a picture of him in my bedroom that was signed—that I had gotten for my birthday when I was, like, 12 years old—and I was walking to Leo. And I was like, 'This is officially the most surreal moment of my life. I could not believe it.

"I think he probably thinks I'm a little weird because whenever I see him, I'm like, 'Hey... how's it going?' Just in little moments where you're at the same event or something. He's very sweet, though. But that was, truly, that was what was the craziest experience was the fact that it was him."

Stone won an Oscar for her role as Mia opposite Ryan Gosling's Sebastian in La La Land, which initially won best picture only for the award to rightfully be given to Moonlight in one of the most controversial (and awkward) moments in the ceremony's storied history:

Stone is now gearing up for Cruella to unleash into the world Friday (May 28). She plays the titular character in the Craig Gillespie-directed prequel, outlining the origin story of Estella as she morphs into Disney's most recognizable villainess.
