Lorde drops single 'Solar Power,' her first new original music in 4 years
We're slowly easing into summer, and it doesn't technically begin until June 20, but Lorde gave us a blast of "Solar Power" on Thursday (June 10), and we were suddenly transported to the beach without a care in the world.
"Solar Power" is Lorde's first original release since June 16, 2017, when her sophomore studio album Melodrama arrived. The lackadaisical and whimsical pop song is accompanied by an equally vibey music video:
Not only does the song bring Lorde back into our lives, it boasts Jack Antonoff as a co-writer and background vocals by Clairo and Phoebe Bridgers. And not only that, it will serve as the title track for her upcoming third studio album, as she wrote to fans in an email newsletter (h/t Pitchfork).
Lorde first put her fans on high alert when she updated her official website Sunday with cheeky cover art and a message saying, "Arriving in 2021 ... Patience is a virtue":
The 24-year-old New Zealander first told fans, again through her newsletter, that she was working with Antonoff in May 2020. To read that full newsletter, visit Vulture.
