Lewis Hamilton will join Ferrari from 2025 onwards and while this has got the whole F1 paddock talking, the former F1 world champion, Jenson Button has dished out the mouthwatering prospect of Fernando Alonso joining Mercedes next year.
Lewis Hamilton will leave a huge void at the Brackley-based team when he departs at the end of this year’s campaign. A lot of names have already been thrown into the hat regarding the 2025 Mercedes seat, but, Jenson Button, sees Alonso as the favorite.
While talking about the same in detail on Sky F1, he said, as reported by Soymotor:
For George, he has to think about a new teammate again. It will be one of his karting rivals like Alexander Albon or it will be Fernando Alonso , a guy who never leaves, always keeps fighting for the best seats in the best teams. I would have to say Alonso , I am in love with my old teammate, I would love to see Fernando there. He is 42 years old, but the hunger is still there.
Button, with his reaction, has made it quite clear that he is backing the former two-time F1 world champion, Fernando Alonso to secure the 2025 Mercedes seat alongside George Russell. However, has also admitted that Williams Alexander Albon could also be in the mix to secure the coveted seat.

While Jenson Button has indicated that Fernando Alonso is the favorite to secure the Mercedes seat, it is not yet a done deal. Moreover, the Spaniard might not decide to leave Aston Martin at the end of 2024 if the team makes huge progress.
The AMR23 helped the 42-year-old secure an impressive eight podiums last year. If the upward trajectory of the team continues, then he will most probably shy away from joining the Toto Wolff-led Mercedes team for the 2025 season of the sport.
Like Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso’s one of the last wishes in the sport is to win another world championship. Bringing the curtain down on his career as a three-world champion will be the ideal ending for the Spanish maestro.
