The first lap of the Monaco Grand Prix was absolute chaos.
On the hill at Turn 1 of Monaco, Red Bull driver Sergio Perez and Haas driver Kevin Magnussen collided, causing Perez's car to spin out of control and into the crash barrier. The wreck also took out Magnussen's teammate Nico Hulkenberg.

According to Jerome Pugmire of the Associated Press, the accident forced a 40-minute delay, but none of the drivers suffered injuries.
While the stewards noted the crash, there was no further investigation. Nate Saunders of ESPN has pointed out this may be a "controversial" choice. Magnussen is two penalty points (10) from a one-race suspension.

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc – a Monaco native – ultimately won the Monaco Grand Prix, with teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. finishing in third.
This outcome helped Ferrari (252 points) close the gap with Red Bull (276 points) in the battle for the Constructors' Championship.
Red Bull's No. 1 driver, Max Verstappen, failed to make the podium for just the second time this season, finishing in sixth. If Perez hadn't crashed on the first lap and finished the race, it could have helped Red Bull turn in a much better result.
