Alex Albon , the Thai-British driver, had a big shunt during the ongoing Australian GP weekend. Just a few hours ago, Albon after going over a kerb, lost control of his FW46 and crashed into the wall during the Free Practice 1 session. He further slid on the track causing major damage.

Because of his crash, he was not seen on the track during Free Practice 2. During the ongoing campaign, Albon’s teammate, Logan Sargeant, has not been able to put in the kind of laps that the former has, and keeping this in view, Williams boss, James Vowels has indicated that Albon could take over Sargeant’s car for the rest of the Australian weekend.

If Williams is not able to fix the former Red Bull driver’s car, Vowels could ask Sargeant to give up his seat.

One point here will make the difference between sixth and 10th potentially in the championship, simple as that. James Vowles said after FP2 in an interview with Motorsport

From Williams point of view, the decision makes immense sense. The lower half of the 2024 grid is extremely tight and every point matters. With all due respect to Sargeant, he has proved second best at Williams since joining the team.

Alex Albon believes Williams is ‘two or three years’ away from an F1 world championship

A lot is going on at Williams around the fixing of Alex Albon‘s car ahead of Saturday’s running. While their garage is extremely busy, Albon, ahead of today’s FP1 and FP2 admitted that his team is two to three years away from challenging for an F1 world championship.

Albon is determined to give his absolute best to bring Williams up on the F1 grid.

Truthfully, around two or three years. Albon said in an interview with Australian talk show – The Project

The 27-year-old, looking at the progress of the team under James Vowels, ardently feels that Williams glory days are not too far away. The outfit finished the 2023 F1 season in seventh place in the Constructors Championship.

Williams F1 is on an upward trajectory, there is no denying this fact. However, keeping in view the present, it will be fascinating to see what they will do around the current Australian GP situation. If Sargeant eventually is asked to give up his car for Albon, the American is certainly going to be in a sour mood. James Vowles would be required to do a bit of driver management.
