The news of Lewis Hamilton moving to Ferrari from 2025 onwards was broken just a few weeks ago. The seven-time champion had activated a breakaway clause from his contract at Mercedes and signed for the Scuderia. However, F1 pundit and Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle seemed unconvinced by the Briton’s ’emotional’ end to his time with the Silver Arrows.

Brundle has been an F1 driver himself and has seen a lot of driver transfers, whether of Michael Schumacher to Ferrari in 1996 or Hamilton’s transfer to Ferrari in 2025. The 39-year-old had recently commented that it would be an emotional and surreal ending with Mercedes. Despite that, the former Williams driver has rejected Hamilton’s claims.

I don't buy all of this, 'It's going to be emotional leaving'... Lewis is a winning machine, and that's what he wants to do. Martin Brundle said via Sky Sports F1 podcast.

The Englishman describes his compatriot as a ‘winning machine’ as he is always on the hunt to win. Brundle explained that Hamilton’s move to the prancing horses is entirely motivated by his want to win the elusive eighth world title. Since 2022, the Brackley-based squad has been unable to give the former champion a car that could fight for wins. That’s why, according to Brundle, Hamilton switched to the Italian squad for the 2025 season.

What was Toto Wolff’s reaction to Lewis Hamilton’s departure?

After the shock announcement of the Briton to leave his strong alliance behind, Toto Wolff was taken aback by his departure. The Austrian was not happy with his colleague’s departure to their arch-rivals.

I don't want to be hasty [to replace Lewis Hamilton], I guess there were some contracts signed a few weeks ago that we could have looked at. It would have been interesting, but the timing penalized us a bit. Toto Wolff on replacing Lewis Hamilton, via FormulaPassion.it.

The Mercedes supremo felt that his driver’s departure had penalised him as not a lot of options were available on the market. Recently, Lando Norris and Charles Leclerc had extended their contracts. Subsequently, the Austrian could be referring to that.

Wolff would be leaving the sour taste behind so that the team could make the most of its season. However, he would be on the hunt for a driver who would be able to fill the void left by the seven-time champion.
