QB Russell Wilson believes Steelers can 'do something special'

When the Denver Broncos released quarterback Russell Wilson in March, he had the choice of playing for several other teams.

He chose to join the Pittsburgh Steelers on a one-year, $1.21 million deal, as his former team paid him $37.79 million to not play for them in 2024.

It was a decision he didn't take lightly and one he's glad he made following the first three days of OTAs.

"It's been great. I think all of the offensive line has been doing a tremendous job. The receivers and tight ends and running backs, everyone's making plays," Wilson said.

The Steelers have done a great job building up their offensive line and surrounding Wilson with playmakers this offseason. He's already been growing a strong rapport with a few.

"There's a lot of guys that are making plays," Wilson stated. "I think guys like Calvin Austin, Van Jefferson, those guys have been really special, Pat Freiermuth. I'm just proud of how great we've been working."

Still, the 35-year-old knows better than anyone that being put in the right positions to be successful can be just as important.

Wilson has an early glowing review of new offensive coordinator Arthur Smith's offense like several new teammates.

"I think coach Arthur Smith's doing a really good job of putting us in great situations," Wilson added. "I think we want to be the most physical team in football. We want to be able to play tough football and a great four quarters and play late into the season, late into January, February. That's the goal. That's the mission."

Wilson knows what it takes to make the playoffs and how to win in them, which Pittsburgh has not done since the 2016 season.

If what he believes the Steelers will continue building this summer is true, fans could be in store for the most exciting season in nearly a decade.

"It's an exciting team," Wilson concluded. "We're excited for the opportunity to really do something special."
