Logan Sargeant , the Williams driver, since joining the pinnacle of motor racing has not been able to perform at expected levels. He had a torrid time during 2023 and is having pretty much the same during the ongoing campaign.
The former F1 driver, Damon Hill , has taken note of the woes of Logan Sargeant and has thus, given an extremely strong opinion on him. Moreover, to put additional weight behind his comments, he has even mentioned the reigning world champion, Max Verstappen.
Hill blatantly has made Sargent known that he is not in the league of the Dutchman and should work on getting the basics right.
I think that the panic should not set in, you need to keep a cool head to say, ‘Listen, there’s only so much you can do’. And you have to drive a little bit within yourself. You can’t suddenly become Max Verstappen in one mighty leap, you have to know yourself. Damon Hill said on the F1 Nation Podcast
The ongoing campaign is four rounds down and Sargeant is yet to show any improvements in comparison to last year. He has not looked at ease behind the wheel of the FW46 and going ahead, he will be required to put in decent results.
Logan Sargeant needs to focus on ‘DRIVING’
While Damon Hill has not minced his words criticizing the Williams driver, Sargeant’s future is hanging by a thread. The ongoing campaign has 20 rounds left and the latter’s sole focus should be on performing well in these races.
Hill understands the difficult situation that the American is in currently and has thus, advised him to give his undivided attention to driving.
There’s only so much you can do. There’s things you can affect and things you can’t affect. And the things you can affect, obviously, are the things you need to put all your focus on. And that means driving. Damon Hill said on the same podcast
Keeping in view that Logan Sargeant is only 23 years old, he could have a long future in F1. However, the buck will stop if he is not able to up his game in the upcoming races. No one at Williams expects him to beat his teammate, Alex Albon regularly, all they want from him is to put in performances that are close to the Thai-British driver.
