A cross-sport parlay to begin November

With the World Series postponed yesterday, both teams' rotations get an extra day of rest, and Game 3 will see a different starter from Philadelphia. Our plan today is to grab a parlay leg from Game 3 on the diamond and pair it with one of the many enticing NHL games on the Tuesday schedule.

Astros-Phillies Game 3 should be close

Not much has changed in the past 24 hours. We still believe in Philadelphia to win tonight. Instead of Noah Syndergaard, it'll now be Ranger Suarez making the start for Philly. In 9.2 innings this postseason, Suarez has a 1.86 ERA and has struck out nine. It will be Lance McCullers Jr. on the rubber as scheduled, but one has to wonder if him prepping to start yesterday and having to postpone may impact his effectiveness early in this game.

Philly has yet to lose at home this postseason in five games and will have a raucous crowd bringing the energy. Our concerns with McCullers yesterday are still here. He allowed eight hits in his last start, and the Phillies were able to get bats on the ball when they saw McCullers at the beginning of October. He's had a fantastic season, but our belief is that the Astros starter struggles to make it five innings tonight.

To be safe, our first parlay leg will take an alternate run line for the home team: Phillies +2.5 (-155).

We have some high-scoring hockey games in store tonight

There's a 12-game slate on the ice today and a lot to like on the board. We turn our attention to a high-profile Eastern Conference clash between the Bruins and Penguins. Both Boston and Pittsburgh have displayed their typical offensive firepower. The Bruins have scored the most goals per game at 4.22 and the Penguins aren't far behind with the seventh-most GPG at 3.56.

Boston shouldn't have many issues dictating the pace against Pittsburgh, as the Penguins have had serious defensive issues that have led to them allowing the fourth-most shots on goal and the 10th-most goals per game. With both teams dealing with penalty issues and owning strong power plays, we're expecting plenty of scoring. We'll move tonight's over/under down just a tad for our second leg of the parlay: Over 5.5 goals scored (-160).

Together, this cross-sports parlay comes in at a reasonable +126 on DraftKings.

In the news ...

Roquan Smith traded to Ravens — Two-time second-team All-Pro linebacker Roquan Smith has been traded to Baltimore from Chicago, the latest move as the Bears enter a full rebuild. It's quite the grab for the Ravens as they add another piece to their defense, and with the Bengals' loss last night, Baltimore stands alone at the top of the AFC North at 5-3. Currently, the Ravens' odds to win the division sit at -400. This is a bit surprising given just a one-game lead over Cincinnati. The public clearly thinks Baltimore is in the driver's seat.

Sixers lose 2023 and 2024 second-round picks for tampering — The league announced on Monday that the Philadelphia 76ers tampered with other teams' players this summer, and have stripped them of two second-round picks. Philly talked with both Danuel House and PJ Tucker early, eventually signing both. This move by the NBA and Adam Silver could limit Philadelphia's ability to trade for a piece at the deadline, as they can't trade a first-round pick until 2029 after the Harden trade. The Sixers are currently 4-4 and are +800 to win the East, the fourth-best odds.

Auburn fires football coach — After just two years, Auburn has relieved head coach Bryan Harsin of his duties after a 3-5 start to the season. The 41-27 loss to Arkansas was the nail in the coffin for Harsin, as the Tigers will turn to next season to regain some competitiveness in the SEC.
