Atalanta are increasingly keen on signing Lazio centre back Luiz Felipe to replace the departing Cristian Romero.

As reported by Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport (via LazioNews24) earlier today, the Bergamo based club are getting closer to finalising the sale of Romero to Premier League side Tottenham, and have identified the 24-year-old Lazio defender as a very strong replacement.

Luiz Felipe impressed coach Maurizio Sarri in the pre-season training camp in Auronzo di Cadore and does not want to leave the Italian capital, currently in the midst of negotiating a contract renewal.

Despite all of this, the Brazilian centre back could be sold as Lazio need to make some sales in order to unlock their incoming transfer market, which is currently blocked by the now infamous liquidity ratio.

Developments are expected in the coming days, once the sale of Romero has been fully completed.

There is also a chance that Luiz Felipe will renew his contract, which is currently set to expire next year in 2022, before Atalanta have a chance to make a deal.
