AEW has a tough decision to make regarding Jeff Hardy

Jeff Hardy's contract is expected to expire in June. The former high-flier hasn't been seen on AEW television since being injured when facing Sammy Guevera on Feb. 14. While Hardy has been sidelined, his brother Matt Hardy has left the company and is currently doing shows with TNA.

The Hardy Brothers are a highly respected tag team that has teamed up in multiple promotions. When Jeff left WWE, there was hope the brothers would get a big push in AEW and revitalize the tag-team roster. That push never occurred and the Hardy Boys were left filling gaps on Rampage or Collision.

During a recent episode of "The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy," the former AEW star updated the audience on his brother's contractual status.

"He’s sitting at home, just waiting on that phone call, jumping on the trampoline, up and down with dumbbells. But yeah, he’s got til like mid-June or so, I think, and then his deal’s up, so I guess we’ll see if he ends up re-signing or not re-signing," Hardy said. " I know that is something that he wants to do, so it’s gonna be interesting to see what happens."

AEW president Tony Khan has a bloated roster at his disposal. Most mid-card talents who suffer injury find it difficult to navigate themselves back into weekly programming. Hardy won't be the only star sitting at home waiting for the phone to ring. Khan has made a habit of honoring his contracts. Therefore, any talent not currently being utilized will be allowed to remain on the payroll until their deals expire.

Jeff and Matt will likely team up in TNA. They could also push for one final hurrah in WWE, if Paul Levesque is open to the idea of bringing the legendary tag team back for a short run. Whatever happens next, it's unlikely to occur in AEW. Khan's main roster is starting to take shape. It's doubtful there would be a spot for the Hardy's, even if they chose to re-sign.

As such, TNA may get a legitimate Hall of Fame-level act to lean on. Whether that will be the Hardy's final stop remains to be seen. Either way, the clock is certainly ticking on their professional careers.
