Michigan footbal hasn’t had the recruiting success of Ohio State, but as I explained recently, things aren’t nearly as bad as some are making them out to be.

One reason is that Michigan football has recruited well at quarterback the past two cycles. Jadyn Davis was ranked as a top-10 quarterback according to the 247 Sports composite rankings in the 2024 class. He also put together a solid spring and has a bright future.

2025 quarterback commitment Carter Smith is ranked No. 153 overall in the composite rankings. He’s a dual threat and is another future starter in my book. Michigan football is doing exactly what you want and that’s stacking talent at the game’s most important position.

The Wolverines are looking to do it again in the 2026 class and are making solid progress with four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel who is ranked 65th overall in the composite rankings. Out of California, Smigiel is 6-foot-5, 205 pounds, and is the fifth-best QB in the class right now.

Another great sign for Michigan football QB recruiting

According to Brice March of The Michigan Insider , he’s also scheduled a multi-day trip to Ann Arbor to see Sherrone Moore and the Michigan Wolverines.

The visit will be from June 18-20 and here’s what Smigiel told Marich about Michigan football:

“Looking forward to meeting head coach, dive into the offense, and see Ann Arbor in the summer,” Smigiel told The Michigan Insider. “Also spending time with Coach Campbell.”

Smigiel has an impressive offer list that includes more than 30 programs. Georgia, Ohio State, Notre Dame, Florida State, USC, Oregon, Nebraska, Florida, Michigan State, Miami, and Washington are among those in the mix.

The 2026 quarterback has visited USC three times and Oregon twice, which isn’t shocking considering he’s from California. This will be his second trip to Ann Arbor and that’s a good sign for the Wolverines. Getting him back for a game will be the next priority along with an official visit.

But if Michigan football can keep the pipeline full of talented quarterbacks, that will be a great sign for the future, and landing Smigiel is the next priority at quarterback.
