Chelsea’s COVID-19 crisis has reportedly deepened, leaving their scheduled tussle with Wolverhampton Wanderers under serious threat.
Thomas Tuchel was dealt a considerable blow ahead of their midweek battle with Everton in the shape of several positive COVID-19 test results.
Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi, Timo Werner, Mateo Kovacic and Kai Havertz were all forced to watch the game from the sidelines.
Thankfully, Tuchel later revealed that, despite showing symptoms, Havertz later tested negative, with Kovacic also having returned to training and been made available for the Wolves game.
However, according to reports circulating on Saturday afternoon, there have been two more positive cases in the Chelsea camp, a strong suggestion that they haven’t been able to get a lid on the outbreak.
Their clash with Wolves tomorrow afternoon has subsequently been left under serious threat, with the Premier League’s festive schedule unravelling in its entirety.
You can’t help but feel as though the time has come for the league to take action and put an end to proceedings as clubs tackle the COVID-19 outbreaks within their squads and staff.
There’s not only just the health and safety argument in play here, but also fans’ travel arrangements are going down the pan merely hours before kick-off. It’s not fair.
