The first wave of NFL free agency is essentially over and as per usual, the Dallas Cowboys made no major moves.

In fact, their only transaction has been re-signing long snapper Trent Sieg on a one-year deal. Meanwhile, NFL teams have taken several top linebackers and running backs off the market, leaving the Cowboys with huge question marks at both positions of need.

Specifically at running back, the Cowboys appear to have very few options to turn to. Not only have big names like Derrick Henry and Saquon Barkley agreed to terms with other teams but Dallas reportedly thought $4 million per year was out of their price range for starting-caliber back Zack Moss.

That alone tells you everything about what the Cowboys are looking for at the position despite only having Deuce Vaughn and Malik Davis currently on roster as legit options (Hunter Luepke is a fullback for the team): They're only interested in backs that will sign for really cheap deals, potentially minimum salary contracts.

That's why Dez Bryant's latest comments about the team on Twitter/X appear to be right on. Dez tweeted on Tuesday morning that J.K. Dobbins would be a great fit with the Cowboys.

"I know (he's) hungry and destined for a big season with the right opportunity," Bryant wrote. "A lot of those young guys will see first hand what hard work looks like."

Why Dez Bryant might be on to something

Regardless of how Cowboys Nation should feel about Dobbins being the target for the team, the former Baltimore Ravens running back fits the description we laid out above.

Dobbins will likely sign for a minimum salary deal mainly because of a long injury history that will keep NFL teams from investing in him.

As A to Z Sports Dallas host Skywalker Steele lays out in the clip above, he's the kind of player the Cowboys love to take swings at through low-risk, high-reward contracts.

Dez might've just guessed the next signing of the Cowboys at running back. However, only time will tell what they actually do. Whatever their free agency additions are in the latter phases of free agency, expect the Cowboys to target a running back in Day 2 of the 2024 NFL Draft.
