Former Tennessee Vols defensive coordinator John Jancek is back on the market.

According to a report from Football Scoop this week, Jancek is no longer with the LSU Tigers.

Jancek, who joined LSU's staff as an analyst ahead of the 2022 season, served as the Tigers' special teams coordinator/outside linebackers coach in 2023.

Football Scoop's John Brice reported that Jancek, who will turn 56 later this spring, plans to continue coaching.

Jancek served as Tennessee's defensive coordinator from 2013 to 2015. In his last season with the Vols, Tennessee had the No. 17 scoring defense in the nation, allowing just 20.0 points per game.

Then Vols head coach Butch Jones moved on from Jancek after the 2015 season, hiring Bob Shoop to serve as Tennessee's defensive coordinator ahead of the 2016 season.

The move backfired as the Vols' defense regressed in 2016, allowing 28.8 points per game in Shoop's first season (No. 78 in the nation).

This past season, Tennessee's defense allowed 20.3 points per game (No. 23 in the nation) -- the Vols' best defensive season since Jancek's final season in Knoxville.

Jancek's son, Jack, was a redshirt junior wide receiver at Tennessee in 2023.
